About Me: Welcome

Gina Meeks is the incumbent 12th Ward Alderman for the City of Rockford, and the first Black woman to hold this particular position. Gina grew up in the south suburbs of Chicago with her mother (Delta Sigma Theta Charter Member, Myla Meeks), graduating from Rich Central High School. Since moving to Rockford in 2000 to live with her father (Rockford Juneteenth Founder, Tommy Meeks), she has built a career rooted in community engagement with a proven ability to build meaningful relationships, drive economic development, and create opportunities that uplift residents and strengthen neighborhoods.

A seasoned leader and community advocate, Gina’s career spans over two decades of fostering connections and delivering impactful results. Starting her career at Chrysler’s ABD Federal Credit Union, she earned a reputation for outstanding customer service to thousands of UAW members. She later became the Membership Director of the Rockford Country Club, an iconic institution in the Edgewater community where she lived. This role allowed Gina to engage with her neighbors, address local concerns, and advocate for their needs directly.

As the Business Development Assistant at the Rockford Area Economic Development Council, Gina worked closely with business leaders to support economic growth and uncover the region’s many opportunities.

Gina’s commitment to service extends beyond her professional roles. As a former Labor Engagement Manager and Director of Neighborhood Initiatives for United Way of Rock River Valley, she led programs that built stronger neighborhoods, decreased childhood poverty, and raised substantial funds for community initiatives. Gina has a history of coordinating large-scale events including Rockford’s annual Labor Day Parade and Picnic as well as the Annual Juneteenth Celebration.

Gina is a celebrated local singer with three RAMI Female Vocalist of the Year awards entertaining with RAMI Hall of Fame Bands such as Men of our Times and Groove Hotel. She is a proud mother of two sons, who inspire her to work tirelessly to improve Rockford.
